-6-
Coal waste will be transported from the portal site to the waste
• disposal area by means of 35-ton 769-0 Caterpillar trucks. The
vehicles have a gross weight of approximately 138,000 pounds.
If loadings or conditions are significantly different from those
described above, we should be notified to revaluate the remmm~nda-
tions contained in this report.
GEOLAGIC SEPPING
The proposed Deserado Mine is located in the northwestern part
of the Piceance structural basin about 12 miles northeast of Rangely,
Colorado. The surface facility site is ~ the northeastern limb of
the northwest trending Rangely anticline, whid~ is a broad, open fold
in the northern part of the structural basin. The bedrock formations
underlying the site dip gently toward the northeast. The site is
• underlain by interbedded sandstone, shale, and coal of the Upper
Cretaceous age Mesaverde Group. The Mesaverde Group is underlain by
Mesozoic to Precambrian age sedimentary rocks which extend to depths
of several tens of thousands of feet. Major faults have not been
mapped in the vicinity of the site, Fbwley and others, (1979). The
closest faults whidi haves been designated possible capable faults are
located in the Rangely Oil Field about 6 miles southwest of the site
and along the north and south margins of the Uinta Arch about 20 to
50 miles north of the site, Kirkham and Rogers (1978).
SITE GEOIlJGY
The general geologic and topographic oonditions in the vicinity
• of the mine surface facilities is shoes on Fig. 3.
