There aze nine species, Gray Wolf (Canis lupus), Black-Footed Ferret (Mustela nigrines),
Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos), Preble's Meadow Jumping Mouse (Zapus hudsonius preblei), Kit
Fox (Vulpes macrotis), Townsend's Big-Eared Bat (Corynorhinus townsendii nallescens), Black-
Tailed Prairie Dog (Cvnomvs ludovicianus), Botta's Pocket Gopher (Thomomy bottae rnbidus)
and Swift fox (Vulnes yelox), that are not known to occur in Routt County. These species are
not known to occur in Routt County, and therefore on site or adjacent to the mine site, due to the
lack of sightings and/or habitat.
There are three species, Lyme (Lvnx Canadensis), Wolverine (Gulo Qulo) and River Otter
(Lutra canadensis), that are either known to occur or likely to occur in Routt County due to
sightings and/or habitat. These species were not sighted in the 1979 to 1980 study on site or
adjacent to the mine site.
Lynx preferred habitat is northern coniferous forests. Uneven-aged stands with relatively
open canopies and well-developed understories are ideal. They now appear to be restricted to
extremely isolated areas of the mountains of the central portion of Colorado. Lynx have been
extirpated in Routt County.
Wolverines preferred habitat is boreal forests and tundra. The status of the wolverine
range in Colorado is uncertain at this time. Wolverines have been extirpated in Routt County.
River otters inhabit riparian habitats that traverse a variety of other ecosystems ranging
from semidesert shrublands to montane and subalpine forests. The species requires permanent
water of relatively high quality and with an abundant food base offish or crustaceans. Minimum
estimated water flows are 10 cubic feet (0.28 cubic meter) per second. Other habitat features that
may be important include the presence of ice-free reaches of stream in winter, water depth,
stream width, and suitable access to shoreline. They occur in the Colorado, Gunnison, Piedra,
and Dolores rivers. River otters abundance in Routt county is rare.
As the mine is in permanent cessation no impact to the species in Colorado that are
threatened, endangered or species of special concern at the state and/or federal levels or habitat is
expected.
2.7-28b Revised 11/06
