• Emergency Spillway. The emergency spillway shall be constructed in accordance
with the lines, grades, and sections shown on the plans. The channel shall be trapazoidal
with a minimum bottom width of 8 feet and 2H:1V side slopes. Gabion baskets shall be
placed on both the bottom and sides of the spillway.
Principal Spillway. The principal spillway shall be constructed and assembled in
accordance with plans and at the elevation and location shown on the drawings. The
spillway shall include a riser, antiseep collars and trash rack.
Embankment Construction. Prior to placing any embankment material, the
foundation surface shall be scarified to a depth of at least 6 inches and recompacted per
the compaction specifications. All fill materials shall be obtained from the designated
borrow areas. The fill shall be constructed so that the distribution of materials
throughout the embankment will be essentially homogeneous and free from lenses, pocket,
streaks or layers of material differing substantially in texture or gradiation from the
surrounding material. Embankment fill shall be placed in approximately horizontal layers
extending the entire width of the embankment. A 2 percent cross slope toward the pond
• shall maintained during construction. The thickness of each layer shall not be more than 8
inches.
Compaction. At the time of compaction, moisture content of the embankment
materials shall be such that the specified compaction will be obtained. The materials
shall be dried or moistened uniformly as necessary to bring the moisture content to near
optimium. All fill placed in the embankment shall be compacted to at least 90 percent of
maximum density at optimium moisture as defined by the modified proctor. Compaction
equipment shall traverse the entire surface of each layer of material the number times
required to accomplish the specified compaction.
Testin During the course of work, density tests shall be made in accordance with
the following minimum schedule: Once every 2,000 yards or once every lift. Fill placed
at densities Jower than that specified or otherwise not conforming to the requirements of
this specification shall be reworked to meet the compaction requirements or removed and
replaced with acceptable fill.

-6-
