Although harvest records wvxe not available for
c:-us site, similar dry land alfalfa fields in tris area of Colorado produce
cetween 2000 anti 3000 lbs dry weight alfalfa per acre per year (personal
conmuiication, 1979, ,'~Sr. Thomas Darty, Agrieulti:sal Extension Agent, ?^vntrose,
Colorado).
Juniper vegetation type. The juniper connn,^; ty, characterized by i;tah
juniper trees (Juniperus ost~sperma), ca:t~rises 1.80 acres on the study area.
Tiv-s type is actually an agricultural sub-type as the herbaceous uncerstorl
is alfalfa hay meadow. Juniper trees witt+;~ t'Zis agricultural area were
w•e21 scattered and thus, do not appear to have any affect on tF.e production
and species oom~oosition of tie understor}• vegetation which is ,:,.~ alfalfa
field. Tree 6ensity is 95.7 trees/acre (a tntal o£ 59 trees occur within
the type) and basal area averages 737.10 cnZ. All trees are L'tah juniper.
This juniper area represents scattered individual trees in an alfalfa Meld.
- (Nariah Associates 1979).

Riparian vegetation type. The riparian type oo~rises 1.93 acres or 1.78
o£ the rural study area. The type occurs along an irrigation diteii and
consists of a shall canmuruity of comron cattail (21'pha latifolia), hr,Itic-
rush {Juncos balti.c-ci.), and longstem spikerush (Eleocharis macrostachya) and
a s~call tree corrnuuty. The tree commutity consists of 11 Chinese elm
(Ulmus oarviflora), 13 narrowleaf cottonwood (~uius anguustifolia,) and 3
plains cottonwood (PO~.tlus sargentii). Total density is 14.5 trees/acre
while average basal area is 303.29 cm2. Quantitative cover or production
estitrates were not crede for this types (Mariah Associates 1979) .
WIZDLIFE _.
Data gathered during 1979-1980 wildlife studies at Nucla Mine and site
specific information found in the literature are discussed by major wildlife
conponents below. .~ list of vertebrate species positi.~•~_;• inderti£ied for
-18-
JUM 1 1 1980

(Revised July 2006) Attachment 2.04.11-1-25
