Edward N,. Gardner
940 South 10th Street
Grd. Jct., Colorado 81501
Ref: Gravel Lease at Whitewater, Colo.
Dear Mr. Gardner:
This letter is in answer
tenden use of the nit area you
gravel is all dug out. Please
that current lease agreement.
Registered-Commercial
Charolais & Here/ord
Cattle
to your inquiry about our in-
now lease from us when the
make this letter a part of
!'Je are not aware of all the many requirments the Mate
of Colorado mzy impose on your business. !'Je do however, want
it clearly understood that this is our land and we do not in-
tend it to ever be any kind of a Public Area. At the end of
the gravel digging, in any area, we will use the ground and
lakes for our own private cattle ranch. VJe would like to be
informed of anything the Government requires you to do to our
land so that we can check its application to private rights.
' As we discussed, the lower pit area from Eangs Canyon up
to the rock dike you are building will be used as zn area for
over-burden as you clear the pit. We want this area sloped so
' that our cattle can get safely from the bluff to the river.
!9hen the pit is filled with overburden and available to us, we
plan to move our cattle feeding station to this area so that
' you may dig the gravel where we are now feeding. Roads to this
area will be the dike along the river and the road you are
building along the bottom of the bluff. These roads will have
to lead back to the dugway and over it so we will have access
' to thelower area from our fields and yard. It is our under-
standing that the rest of this lower pit area will become a
lake as large as the gavel bed allows, and we will want the
' over-burden from the unper pits placed into this area so as
to enlarr~e the feeding area as much as possible.
The upper pit area is to be your equipment and stockpile
area. The pit you have stopped digging in and get your water
out of may help us by providing a place to pump irrigation
~.vater out of during dry periods.
We will run cattle over all areas not being used by you
53
150 -r- ~ a ~ 040 H I V ~' y
r
RALPH CRAIG
436-7168
HERSCHEL REND RIC KSON
931-2805
UNAWEEPCANYON
Whitewater, Colorado 81527
