~ iii iiiiiiiiuiiiiii
PLAN
The present plans for reclaiming the land in question
after the gravel mining operation is to slope the banks of the
pit to a grade of 3H:IV.
The normal ground level is very near the water level
during the spring and summer months of the year and, basically,
the land surrounding the gravel pit is sand and gravel, the
whole Valley at one time or another being an old stream bed.
The natural vegetaion in the area will reseed itself, with
perhaps some seeding, but it is not deemed feasible to
spread top soil on the banks of the pit for the reason that
such would merely wash off and be an unnecessary expense.
The excavation resulting from the removal of gravel
will fill with water and sediment from the Tomichi Creek
during run-off periods and soon cause the banks and the
bottom of the excavation to be of the same material as the
surrounding soil. The pond formed by the foregoing processes
will be utilized as a habitat for fish and for water fowl
and other wild animals which inhabitat the area or travel
through during migration. The gravel pit is within the
confines of the Signal Peak Ranch, and there is not much
human activity that takes place around the area. Cattle
grazing takes place during the spring and fall months, and
the hay fields are, of course, cultivated and harvested
during the summer.
The owners intend to call upon the Soil Conservation
Service for its advice, and to follow its recommendations,
in consultation with the owners, as to the best way of
reclaiming the land after the gravel operations are com-
pleted. We estimate that the cost of reclamation would not
exceed the sum of $800.00.
SIGN PEAK RANCH CO.
~/_'!iD/~JG GSo Dan I.
