Please include your response to this comment with your responses to the preliminary adequacy
review.
ADEQUACY ISSUES
Exhibit E -Reclamation Plan
The proposed seed mix consists entirely of grasses (and one grain), most of which are not suited
to the dry climate and poor, saline soils found at this proposed site. It also includes winter wheat
as a nurse crop. Please revise the seed mix so it includes a few saline, drought tolerant grass
species mixed with seed from a few of the native shrub species found in this area such as black
greasewood, four-wing saltbush, rubber rabbitbrush, broom snakeweed, and big sagebrush. Use
of a nurse crop is not recommended in arid country due to the competition for moisture. Also,
please specify the estimated availability of proposed seed as required by Rule 6.4.5(2)(d).
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970-243-6368.
Sincerely,
-'~~~~
Steve S.
