Production is not included because
the herbaceous component of total annual production alone is not an accurate measure to be
used in comparability evaluations. The density and cover of the woody dominated native
communities, particularly the mixed brush community, have a strong controlling influence
on the amount of herbaceous biomass produced annually. The amount of herbaceous
production at any sample point is controlled by the amount of overs[ory canopy present,
with some dense woody plots having little annual herbaceous production. The three
comparisons presenCed: cover, species density, and species composition, adequately
demonstrate comparability of the affected area and proposed extended reference area.
r
~_~
4 Revised 06/24/91
