• APPENDI% 22-2
To demonstrate the comparability of the affected and extended reference areas, the
following evaluation was completed. The affected lands boundary shown on Exhibit 22-1,
Postmining Vegetation Map was transferred to Exhibit 10-1, Premi ning Vegetation Types. To
determine the maximum extent of the affected area and the extended reference area, both
[he current permit area and the permit expansion area were included. The extended
reference area samples are those which occur between [he affected lands boundary and the
current proposed expansion area permit boundary. Affected area samples occurred within
the affected Lands boundary. Based on their Location relative to the off ec [ed lands
boundary, 1990 vegetation cover samples in the four major types (mixed brush, sagebrush,
aspen, western wh ea tgrass/alkali sagebrush) were segregated as affected area or extended
reference area sampL es. Means and standard deviations were calculated from [he data sets,
and the Students [-test and a similarity index based on Motyka and others' version of
Sorensen's index were used in the determinations. The Students [-test used is as
presented on Page 16 of the October 1988 CMLRD document Guidelines for Compliance with
Land Use and Vegetation Requirements of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal
• Mining. The Motyka Simi Larity index method was taken from the 1983 USDA-USES Research
Paper INT-322, Measuring Species Diversity on Revegetated Surface Mines: An Evaluation of
Techniques, Jeanne C. Chambers, author.
The following 1990 cover samples (see Tab 10, Appendix 10-9, Tables 1-9) were classified
as affected or reference area data sets by vegetation type:
Mixed Brush Lover Samoles
Affected Area (n=16)
9,6,2,12,3,1,7,11,10 (located in
the current permit area)
Reference Area (n=14)
15,14,13,4,5,8 (located in the current
permit area)
10,14,13,8,3,1,2 (located in the
expansion study area)
Affected Area (n=11)
• 6,10,4 (located in the current
permit area)
11,12,15,6,7,9,4,5 (located in the
expansion study area)
Sagebrush Cover Sam les
Reference Area (n=19)
1,2,12,3,15,11,5,13,7,8,14,9 (located
in the current permit area)
1
Revised 06/24/91
