• Proposed Public Notice <br />Lorencito Coal Company, 1311 Bentwood Drive, Evansville, Indiana 47711, has filed with the <br />Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, an application for a permit to mine coal at the <br />Lorencito Canyon Mine located approximately 20 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado, Townships 33 <br />and 34 South, Range 66 West, Section 33 and other unplatted lands on the Hill Ranch. These lands <br />can be located on the Tercio, Weston, and Little Pine Canyon USGS topographical 7.5 minute <br />quadrangle maps. The application was deemed complete on December ~ 1996. <br />Lorencito Coal Company proposes to conduct both surface and underground mining of coal within <br />the permit boundary. Coal will be mined and shipped by rail to a permitted off-site preparation plant <br />for processing and shipping to markets. <br />A copy of the pemut application is available for public inspection at the County Clerk's office, Las <br />Animas County Courthouse, Trinidad, Colorado.
