Box 1154
Myeker, Colorado 81641
RE: Amick Pit
File: 079-103
Dear Mr. Batley:
On March 10, 1981 1 Inspected the above captioned operation and found that
the area had been disturbed prior to having a va11d permit. On April 9,
1981 the Division accepted bond number 4165853, Issued permit number 79-103
and thus corrected this oversight.
While 1 was on Che site 1 noted that topsoil was not being salvaged. The
material currently stockpiled appears to be the cobbly subsurface material.
Acwrding to the SCS report and my site inspection, the topsoil is a light
clay loam approximately 9 inches in depth, cobbly material occurs below
this.
Since the operator has committed to salvage and replace topsoil to achieve
a proposed final land use of rangeland, this upper 9 inches must be carefully
stripped and stockpiled. Upon caspletton of mining, topsoil must be replaced
to a depth of no less than 6 Inches. This obJective would require the
salvage of approximately 800 cubic yards/acre or B,000.cubtc yards for the
total 9.9 acres. The staff reca:mends that this topsoil stockpile be located
along the north edge of the property so that It does not interfere with the
mining operation.
This site will be Inspected In the near future to insure that the operation
iS being carried out according to plan. If there are any problems or questions
concerning the above review, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
James B. McArdle
Reclamation Speclellat
JBHC/Jm
