Box 21649
Denver, Colorado 80221
RE: State Coach Stop Pit - File No. 83-67
Dear Mr. Graham:
I have reviewed this application for adequacy and have the following
questions and comments which must be addressed in detail at least 1 week
prior to the June 22-23, 1983 meeting of the Mined Land Reclamation Board.
A. Exhibit D - Mining Plan
1 . To reduce the potential effects that this mining operation will
have on the South Platte River in the form of sedimentation,
loss of riparian vegetation, breach of the buffer strip, and
resultant possible adverse effects to upstream bridge abutments ®k
and downstream water intakes, the staff recommends that the
operator not disturb the lands north of the stockpile and
barrier location which are west of the Limit of Mining Mark as
portrayed on the Mining Plan map.
2. Topsoil stockpiles which are to remain for greater than 1
growing season should have a grass cover crop planted to protect k
the soil from wind the water erosion.
3. To what depth will gravel be mined during the 2nd phase? k
B. Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
1. To provide for areas of emergent aquatic vegetation and to
increase the sites usefulness to waterfowl, the staff recommends 0,;
that the operator create a few peninsulas and shallow areas
(slopes less than 4:1) on the east side of the lake.
2. The staff recommends that the operator incorporate islands where
the lake depth is favorable fur their construction. The islands K
are used quite intensively by waterfowl for nesting and resting.
423 Centennial Building. 1313 Sherman Street Denver. Colorado 80203 Tel (303) 866-3567
