Geotechnical Evaluation of Mine-Induced Seismicity on Monument Dam
Dorsey 8 Whitney, LLP
• 6.1. The strength of the failure zone was not reduced because it was already considered to be
near its lowest value of residual strength.
6.3.4 Results
We considered potential failure surfaces passing only through the failure zone of the
landslide. The yield acceleration computed from the pseudo-static analyses is 0.007 g, or
approximately 0.01 g. A computer plot of the pseudo-static analysis of the landslide is
shown on Figure 6.4.
6.4 Discussion of Earthfill Dam and Landslide Stability Analysis
Results
The results of the stability analysis, coupled with the observed field conditions and
instrument measurements, indicate the landslide is likely the component of the dam/landslide
system that presents the most critical stability issue. However, for full reservoir, steady-
seepage conditions the earthfill dam static stability also does not meet the recommended
minimum factor of safety.

GEI
23
060150 0603-16 Mmiwnmt Dem Gmmclxid Evel
March 2006
