1
' E. RECLAMATION COSTS
The State of Colorado requires that reclamation costs be determined
' during all phases of the mining operation. If the operator were to cease
operating the State would assume responsibility for all reclamation.
Assuming that the operator were to abandon the site completely, the site
' could be left in any of the following conditions:
1 ) The overburden and topsoil could be halfway stripped. Reseeding cost
' would be approximately $100.00_per acre.
' 2) The overburden and topsoil could be completely removed exposing gravel
at the surface. Reclamation would require replacement of approximately
t6 inches of topsoil which would have to be reseeded for a total cost
of $665.00 per acre.
' 3) If the gravel were partially or completely mined and the site were
' abandoned, a pond would result whose edges would require contouring
and seeding. This would cost approximately $665.00 per acre.
tThe above costs are based upon unit costs of $0. 70 per cubic yard of
scraper soil , $100 per acre for seeding, and $40. 00 per hour for grading
' equipment.
' The reclamation costs for this site were determined using the $665.00
per acre value since most of the disturbance on this site is major and would
' require earth-moving type reclamation. Appendix No. 13 presents the reclama-
tion costs during all stages of the proposed mining-reclamation operation.
' No reclamation costs have been determined for the 16. 1 acres occupied
' by the Best-Way Paving Company operations area since the company intends to
maintain this area as an industrial site on a permanent basis . Therefore,
' the land will not be reclaimed and no reclamation bond need be posted for
that area.
-32-
1
