Box 57
Ridgway, CO. 81432
Thomas A. Schreiner
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Dear Mr. Schreiner,

REFER TO
For ~Idlije-
For People
June 10, 1992
I am writing in regard to the Peck Gravel Pit, File No. M-92-049, which was approved
with conditions. Stipulation No. 4 was that mining operations must be conducted in
a manner that is compatible with and enhances local populations of wildlife. The
operator will submit a Colorado Division of Wildlife statement within 60 days of
permit approval and will implement recommendations, where feasible.
This mine is not situated- in a sensitive wildlife area and will not have any adverse
effects on local wildlife populations. I understand that no trees will be removed
which would have been my recommendation for terrestrial wildlfe. I also understand
that no mining will be done in the river. The river is not a fishery in that area,
but DOW is concerned about downstream siltation. Since there is no possibility of
that, I have no recommendation there either.
There are local populations of deer and elk especially in the winter. I can't see
the operation affecting those. The area is full of roads and houses now and pets
seem to be the largest threat to wildlife.
I have no recommendation concerning wildlife for the Peck Pit. There are no unusual
or special circumstances that would be a concern to wildlife populations.
rnanx you.
Sincerely,

Ken Miller
cc: Mike McLain
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES.
