~-~ United States Soil
`~~ Department of Conservation
Agriculture Service

To: Nancy Harrington August 27, 1981
Environmental Specialist
P&M Coal Mine Co.
2600 Parker Rd. Suite 250
Aurora, CO. 80014
Subject: Range Survey on reference areas
Dear Ms. Harrington,
A Range Forage Inventory to determine range condition class on two
reference areas for P&M Coal was done on the 20th of August with
Wayne Erickson and Don Manning. The soils were correlated with the
range sites from material that you provided.
Both rangesites (Brushy Loam and Mountain Loam) were in Fair condition.
Although the sites were not producing what is possible it appeared that
grazing had taken place during the year.
The mountain loam site in SCS terminology corresponds to your sagebrush/
snowberry site and the brushy loam site to your oak/mountain shrub site.
You mint realize that the enclosed forms are for planning purposes and
do not go into the detail your vegetation study did. Your vegetation
study data enterpreted for use on our forms would still show a range
condition of FAIR.
The production figures and vegetation density are estimates. These
are based on similar range sites in ;the county tnat have been surveyed
by our office.
I hope this information is what you needed.
feel free to call.
Sincerely,
©~ ~~~v
ohn Valentine, D.C.
Steamboat Springs, CO.
cc:file
Wayne Erickson
Edna Mine
• O Box 176
Oak Creek, CO. 80467
Venc1:2
If there are any questions
