clamation Division, an applicaton for a permit to co:duct coal
mitring urder provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining
Reclamation Act of 1979. The legal description of the proposed

Plata and State of Colorado, to-xit: The upper vein of coal com-
mening at an elevation of 7,650.00 feet at the mine portal,

mining and removal of coal from said vien; together with the right
of ingress and egress over arrl across e~d.sting roadways for use in
connection with said prenises above described; together with the
right to mine and remove coal from said vein and together with the
right to use the private road nor existing over and across the
East Half of the Northeast Quarter (E'(;NE~:~), Section Txenty-nine (29),
Aid in and under the West Half of the Northxest Quarter (W n NW7.~ ),
Section Txenty-eight (26), Township Thirtyfive (35) North, Range

The surface of the proposed permit azea is owned by La Flats Coal
Corporation. The proposed date of commencement of the operation
is j~N~ ~ 1987. The description below indicates the
toms, rater bodies, local landmarks and routes necessary to identify
the proposed permit azea. The proposed post-mining land use is rangeland
a[d hay cropla~.
Description: The mine site may be reached by heading south from
Hesperus on State Highway 140 ( about 4 miles) to the junction of
La Plata County Road 120. Follow the County Road zest for about
3 miles in Hay Gulch, putting one at the La Plata Coal Corporation's
La Plata # 1 site.
A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the
La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 Second Avenue, Durango, Colorado 81301.
