grazed sites had higher species diversity relative to lightly
grazed sites.
A review by Dealing (1988) stated that in areas where grazing
intensity was heavy, vegetational changes occurred rapidly. A
study by Copgoc~ et al. (1983) indicated that plant species
diversity was maximized in grasslands which had been moderately
disturbed by young prairie dog towns for 3-8 years. After fortis
and shrubs had replaced graminoid species, plant species diversity
was comoarabie to that of uncolonized native communities.
