After mining of Area 3 is complete, the operation will now move to the upper bench, where Areas 4

•
r ~
U
and 5 will be mined. These areas have considerably more overburden than the previous three min-
ing areas on the lower bench.
The table below shows the drill data and average thicknesses for Area 4:
Area 4
Hole # SoiUOverburden
Depth Gravel Thickness Total Depth
2 21.0 18.0 39.0
3 22.0 16.0 38.0
4 22.0 21.0 43.0
8 21.0 23.0 44.0
Average 21.5 19.5 41.0
Since Area 4 is 40.6 acres in size, an average depth of 21.3 feet yields 1,395,000 cy of
soiUoverburden. Part of the topsoil will be stored in 2 stockpile aeeas immediately east and north of
the pit, as shown on Map C-2. The volume stored here is 34,000 cy and 3100 cy, respectively. This
soil will be used in combination with the 49,170 cy stored in the south topsoil stockpile to place a
cover on the industrial pads and lake slopes for fmal reclamation. Therefore, the total soil stock-
piled for pad reclamation is 86,270 cy. Part of this soil will be used to cover graded areas once they
aze completed. The land pads will be seeded and mulched although they may be disturbed for in-
dustrial sites a short time later. Part of the overburden and topsoil from Area 4 will be backfilled in
part of Areas 1, 2 and 3 to create the 3H:1 V sideslopes azound the lake and a peninsula of Land for
industrial use. The remainder of the soil and overburden will be used to backfill the slopes of Area
4 and provide fill for some areas that will be made into land pazcels after reclamation.
Mining will then proceed to Area 5, the fmal area of mining. For the mining of this area, the facili-
ties (which are portable), will be moved to the backfilled portions of area 1,2 or 3 to allow Area 5 to
be mined. The table below shows the drill data and average thicknesses for Area 5:
15 Road Pit 10/02
12
