(~wel/ permits <br />No. 1 <br />PRACTICE B-5 <br />UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE <br />Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service <br />COLORADO ACP DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS <br />FOR <br />B-S CONSTRUCTING WELLS FOR LIVESTOCK WATER AS <br />APPLICABILITY <br />Rangeland and pastureland. <br />MAXIMUM FEDERAL COST-SHARE: <br />As stated in the current County ACP Handbook. <br />Cost may be shared only for wells located more than <br />one-fourth mile from headquarters in permanent pasture. <br />To obtain proper distribution of livestock and prevent <br />overgrazing or to make practicable the utilization of the <br />land for vegetative cover, cost-sharing will be authorized <br />for drilling or digging wells or deepening wells which are <br />inadequate or have failed to provide water for range live- <br />stock, provided a windmill or power pump is installed and <br />adequate water is conveyed to a storage tank or reservoir <br />of adequate size. An artesian well will be approved pro- <br />vided adequate stock water is made available during the <br />grazing season and in this case a mechanical lifting device <br />will not be required. Storage tanks are not required for <br />artesian wells, if adequate water is available for livestock. <br />A dry hole will not qualify for cost-sharing. <br />Wells for range livestock water may be constructed or <br />deepened near stock water ponds or dams if seasonable water <br />is not adequate or water is not potable, provided other con- <br />ditions of the specifications a.re complied with. <br />The wells must be at locations which will bring about <br />the desired protection of vegetative cover through proper <br />distribution of grazing or better grassland management or <br />make practicable the utilization of the land for vegetative <br />cover. Wells shall not be located in areas where erosion <br />hazard is high such as dry creek beds. <br />
