....~
°.:.ti
1
I•
also by Warranty Daed, in February of 1947. According to Bill Bear,
the land will soon transfer [o his possession, pending cotcpletion
of litigation in the estate of Tony Bear.
According to the legal description, the original land intent
•
for site SGN037 includes lots numbered 1-17 and 20-22, for a total
of 81 acres. According to [he description of the surveyed land as
recorded on January 12, 1916 by the U.S. Surveyor General's Office,
Denver, Colorado (and on file with the Office of Gunnison County
Clerk), Section 21 contains only 21 lots. Further, Gunnison records
indicate that only 80-90 acres of the total section are privately
owned, the remainder located within the Gunnison National Forest.
A records search failed to identify the origin of the nomenclature
responsible for the lot identification in the patent description.
However, the total acreage known to be in private ownership co¢pares
with the total acreage of the property in question. Furthermore, no
record could be found identifying private land ownership within
Section 21 but outside of the Gollob claim. Therefore, it is assured
that the Gollob property was legally contained within lot 1 of the
Surveyor General's survey of 1916. And, further, that the patent
description of lots numbered 1-17 and 20-22 included all patented
land contained in Section 21.
According to Frank Gollob, informant and son of [he property's
1•
original o•.mer, Martin Gollob (and resident on the site during a major
toztion of the Collcb eccu;any),sG:&7:,7 was first hoa, esteaded in
1709 and abandoned around 1948. Ttte Gollob family raised a stroll
nucSer of livestock anti mitred for coal for their ovn use from the
nearby Sylvester Gulch mine site. Structure nc:ber I (see Archaeological
