~'- MINED L~ WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATI~Revised)
~J
for limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Land
Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining permit for:
MURDOCK GRAVEL PIT ~ Open Gravel Plt ~ NW,'7SE,'7-, Sec. 27, T19S, R44W
Name/Type and Location of Mine (Legal)
Wildlife Species list:
Pronghorn
Deer (?)
Pheasant (?)
Scaled Quail
Rabbit
Tiourning Dove
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
None that we are axare of.
Coyote ••
Sxift Fox
Raptors (transient)
Various nongame bird,
Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
P7one that xe are axare of.
Assessment of impact:
mammal, & reptile spp.
I•:inimal, due to it's location next to a grazed shortgrass habitat type and cultivated xheat
fields.
Tune Reclamation recommendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
is designed).
I recommend that the site be graded and sloped to 3:1 or less. Because the pit is loc-
ated in an arid area I recommend that at least one small depression or dike like struc-
ture be left in the bottom of the pit, so as to at least temporarily hold any xater that
may accumulate after heaQy Thunderstorms or during wet periods, and thus provide a watering
hole for wildlife. The remainder of the pit should be seeded with grasses that enhance
game bird nesting (ie: Sand Bluestem,Ta11 Wheat Jose, Switchgrass, Western Wheatgrass ,
Crested Wheat, and Slde Oats Gramma). Yellow Clover and ladak Alfalfa are also bene-
ficial. The establishment of brush thickets xould provide both food and cover for xild-
life and is highly recommended. Species to plant i.n order of preference are Plum,
Buffaloberry, Chokecherry, Wild Rose, & Sandhill Cherry. A maintenance free system
of planting the shrubs is described by h'arren Synder in the April-Nay 1983 Sssue of Colo-
rado Outdoors, a Division of Wildlife publication. Although not as beneficial as shrub
thickets, brushpiles can also be used.
Prepared By: ~! '~/G~ Dale: ~ ~j~
Submitted By: r.~ Date: 1 - 7-83
This statement is void if not processe within 1 year.
This analysis does not constitute approval of application.
