EXHIBIT G
WATER INFORMATION
All water on the permit area is tributary to the South Arkansas River, which
intersects the permit area on the northwest border. There is a water well on the pad and a
surface diversion on a small tributary to the South Arkansas River. There also is a pond
created by snow run-off on the northeast corner of the intersection of the old CF&I
Quarry high-wall, the spoils pile and the exposed limestone vein. All of these are as
indicated on Exhibit C .
The applicant is currently pursuing perfecting the water rights at the well and
surface diversion either of which would supply sufficient water for all operations,
domestic use and dust control. Until these water rights are perfected, or in the event they
are not perfected, all water will be hauled from Salida or off-site.
Total water usage for all purposes should not exceed 1000 gallons per day.
Roads will be treated with magnesium chloride to cut down on water usage for
dust control.
The spoils pile contains sufficient moisture to eliminate dust while "mining" and
handling this product.
Portable toilets will be used which will not require water use.
It is probable that there will be no disturbance to existing hydrology. However, if
ground water is encountered, only temporary disruption of natural groundwater patterns
will occur and any water encountered will be pumped or diverted to the existing pond to
settle out before being returned to the South Arkansas River.
A ditch and settling pond will be maintained, where there is room, between the
spoils pile and the South Arkansas River to collect rain and snowmelt to settle out all
material collected by the run-off before it is decanted into the South Arkansas River.
There will be no water use of, or infringement on, existing water rights and when
the property is reclaimed there will be no change to existing hydrology.
Operation is not expected to directly affect surface or groundwater systems.
A National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit from the
Water Quality Control Division at the Colorado Department of Health is not necessary.
