On May 23, 1997, a letter requesting comments on [his operation was sent to the Southeast Regional
Office of the Division of Wildlife in Colorado Springs. The letter included their standard
questionnaire, an index map and a site specific map. (A copy will be sent to you on request.) Nothing
has been heard from that office since the mailing.
Since 1982 this consultant has personally prepared nine (9) permit applications or amendments for
operations within a 3-mile radius of [he subject. When DOVJ comments have been received on any
of these, they have basically read as follows:
Wildlife Species List -Assorted small mammals including cottontail rabbit, jackrabbit various
rodents, mourning doves, and other small birds.
Endangered/Critical Species/Impacted -None known.
Critical habitats, Vegetative Communities Impacted -None known. The area is a short grass
prairie which is broken by agricultural and residential use.
Assessment ofImpact -Limited to disturbance and displacement of existing vegetation.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations (include kc}• species/habitats for which restoration is
designed) -Reclamation should be consistent with SCS reconunendations for slopes, tillage, seeding
and crimping operations, and herbicide reconunendations- for weed control within the re-seeded area.
Over the last 1 J years when comments have been received for this area, no wildlife impact has been
noted. If a reply to the letter of May 23, 1997 should be received while this application is being
processed, a copy will be forwarded to you for inclusion.
