Gravel Pit Reclamation Plan <br />October 11, 2002 <br />This reclamation plan covers the azea requested and should not be used as a substitute for other areas <br />needing reclaimed. The area requested is as follows: SE4 Section 23, Township 30 South, Range 67 West, <br />Huerfano County, Colorado (see attached map). <br />The predominant soil for the area to be reclaimed is Coldcreek cobbly sandy loam (map unit 11), 25 to 80% <br />slopes. Due to the steepness of the current topography, reclamation may be difficult and future post <br />reclamation visits may be necessary to ensure establishment of permanent vegetation. According to the <br />description of this particular soil, unweathered bedrock maybe encountered at a depth of 50 to 50. inches. <br />Topsoil Removal: Available topsoil will be limited for this particular soil type. Removal of the top foot of <br />soil will be necessary to ensure adequate availability for reclamation activities. Stockpile the topsoil in a <br />location that will minimize exposure to wind and water erosion. <br />Reshaping: Land slopes should not exceed 50 percent (2:1) and should be flatter where feasible and <br />practical. Land slopes exceeding the 50 percent threshold will be difficult to reclaim and stmctural <br />practices may become necessary to ensure a stable grade suitable for seeding establishment. <br />Topsoil Replacement: Topsoil will be replaced uniformly at a depth approaching pre-disturbance depth. <br />This will be necessary [o provide adequate soil to ensure good root development for the revegetation <br />process. If insufficient quantities of topsoil are available for the topsoiling activities it may become <br />necessary to bring soil from offsite to ensure the necessary quantities. The soil being spread should be free <br />of excess debris to facilitate planting operations. <br />Fertilizer Requirements: Timing of application will be immediately prior to seeding, at the time of seeding, <br />or immediately following seeding. This will be dependent upon the type fertilizer and equipment used. <br />The rate of fertilizer application will be no less than 40 pounds of available nitrogen (N) and 40 pounds of <br />available phosphate (P2O5) per acre. This requirement can be waived if a soil test shows adequate fertility <br />to support the vegetation re-establishment. <br />Seeding: The azea will be broadcast seeded to a mixture of site appropriate grasses. Seed will be <br />incorporated into the surface soil to a depth not to exceed'/, inch, by raking, harrowing or other proven <br />method. Seed will be applied between October 15`" and May 15'". Seed will be applied on a pure live seed <br />per acre basis, as follows. <br />Manchar Smooth Brome - 6.5# <br />Amur Intermediate Wheatgrass - 15.0# <br />Yellow Sweet-Clover - 3.5# <br />Mulching: The disturbed area shall be mulched using grass hay or cereal grain straw. At least 50% of the <br />mulch by weight will be 10 inches or more in length. The straw will be applied at a rate of 4,000 lbs./ ac <br />minimum. The mulch will be held in place by a commercial netting material.
