Mary's Mountain Reclamation Plan
The applicant offers the following information in accordance with the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology Reclamation Rules and Regulations.
The land will be reclaimed as range land. All reclamation will be completed within 5
years after active mining production has ended in accordance with the Mined Land
Reclamation Boards guidelines. Maximum slopes and slope combinations shall be
compatible with the configuration of surrounding conditions and selected land use, not to
exceed a ratio of 3:1. (horizontal :vertical) Final grading will be such that topography is
appropriate to the reclaimed use of the property, i.e., as rangeland. No high walls will be
left when mining ends and the floor of the mine will be as flat as possible as requested by
the landowner.
Reclamation will begin by replacing the salvaged topsoil on the excavated area. We
estimate the average depth of the replaced topsoil will be 6 inches. Fertilizer will also be
used to enhance the seedbed. It will be spread over the seedbed and disked in during
prepazation, prior to planting. Fertilizer will applied at the rate of no less than 40 pounds
of available nitrogen (N) and 40 pounds of available phosphate (P205) per acre. Cattle
will be kept offthe site during the first two years to insure the seed takes. After the
second growing season the site will be inspected and an assessment of revegetation
success will be done to determine if additional seeding will be necessary.
Per the Reclamation Plan prepared by the local NRCS, seeding will occur between
October 15"' and May 15~'. The seed will be drilled to insure maximum germination and
most rapid cover establishment. The seeding mix and species of grasses for the area are
included. The seed will be obtained from a supplier in the azea so the mix is adapted to
local conditions. We also expect to see a natural invasion of forbs and woody plants from
surrounding area. Only inaccessible areas will be broadcast seeded. If the seed is
broadcast, the seed rates will be doubled.
Manchar Smooth Brome - 6.5#
Amur Intermediate Wheat Grass - 15.0#
Yellow Sweet Clover - 3.5#
(Seed rates to be applied are pure live seed/acre)
The disturbed area shall be mulched using grass hay or cereal grain straw. The mulch
will be held in place by a commercial netting material.
Weed control will be implemented prior to and during revegetation activities. We will
concentrate on controlling the noxious weeds on the reclaimed azea, following NRCS
recommendations if problems arise.
