Mary's Mountain Gravel Pit Mining Plan
This is an open pit mine located approximately 14 miles west of Pryor, Colorado. Mining
access will be via County Road 312 and existing roads either accessible or owned by the
landowner. Periodic grading will be necessary to keep the road in its present condition
and to make it passable. It will remain after mining is complete.
The anticipated life of this mine is between 8 to 10 yeazs depending on the amount of
material in the mine and market demand. The mining process will begin on the north
side of the mine, where material had been removed in the past. There is an open area
that was leveled at that time, which will allow us to mine into the gravel bank. The initial
preparation of the surface above this bank prior to extraction of the sand and gravel will
consist of stripping the vegetation and topsoil and placing it in stockpiles for use later
during reclamation. Topsoil will be kept separate from product stockpiles. Front-end
loaders, scraper, and motor graders may be used for this operation.
Following the removal of the vegetation and topsoil, the sand and gravel will be
extracted. This will be accomplished with front-end loaders, dozers, scrapers, backhoes
excavators, draglines, or any surface mining type of equipment that is economically
feasible for this site. As this is an open pit mine, mining and construction equipment
designed for this task will be used for earthmoving and transporting both on site and
trucking off site. The sand and gravel will be excavated, and may be moved to a
conveyer, screened and stockpiled. A reserve of specification aggregates will be created
on the site as mining progresses. Once there is an adequate supply, the processing plant
will be moved to another site and the processed material will be removed as needed.
No water diversion or impoundments are planned for this project.
The size of maximum disturbance will be approximately 9.5 acres. This will consist of a
combination of mining, processing, stockpiling, and reclamation. The various stages or
phases of the operation will be dictated by mazket demand. This mine will not be a
phased operation, but will be based on a floating bond of 9.5 acres affected at any one
time. As mining progresses, reclamation will follow. After an area is mine, the back
sloping and contouring of the sidewalls and pit floor will be done, and topsoil spread for
seedbed preparation, and as weather permits, planting will be done. All of the
reclamation will be accomplished in a timely manner in order to establish the vegetation,
