Response to PART II
Item #2
Site 3 1 01 20-1 5 could potentially be converted into a return shaft at a future date. This decision
will be made soon after its completion. Plugging and reclamation will occur on 310119-7
immediately following completion. Plugging and reclamation of 310120-15 will also occur
immediately following completion unless it is deemed suitable for a retum shaft location. In
such case BME will file for a revision to our mining permit to allow additional construction and
place associated disturbances under the scope of Mining Permit CO-1981-018.
Item #3
The surface is managed by the BLM with BME being the holder of Federal Coal Lease COC-
8424 for this area (copy attached).
Item #4
Land use in the proposed exploration area consists of wildlife habitat and winter sheep grazing.
Soils are derived primarily from sandstones and shales. Occasionally the soil profile exhibits
considerable interbedding of parent materials. Soils in the area are generally weakly developed
with low organic matter content. Both drill sites and associated roads are located on Turley fine
sandy loan soil.
Turley fine sandy loan soil is deep, well drained, and on alluvial valley floors, fans, and low
terraces. These soils are formed in calcareous mixed alluvium derived dominantly from
sandstone and shale. Permeability is moderately slow and available water capacity is high.
Vegetation is predominately of the big sagebrush/wheatgrass community with a substantial
invasion of cheatgrass.
Both drill sites are located in a drainage leading to Red Wash, a tributary to the White River.
Prior drilling in the area indicated no presence of a groundwater aquifer. Any groundwater
encountered was very limited in extent indicating origination from an aquiclude.
Drill site locations were selected based on target location and adjusted to minimize disturbance
and environmental impact. Slopes are gentle ranging from 2 to 7%.
For a more thorough but general description of the area and the resources involved please refer to
the mining permit application for Permit # C-1981-018.
Item #5 a
One contractor-supplied drilling unit will be sufficient to complete the drilling program within
the scheduled time period. A basic drilling unit consists of a Gazdner Denver 1500 or 2000 or
