rnrec[or of wtanon
RECEI~EN~
August 22, 2005
State of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80202
~rv-w~ ', ~~I - ~ o mss'-~yS
~AUG 2 5 2005
division of Minerals and Geology
RE: Application for Construction Materials Operation Reclamation Permit by Gravel, LLC,
Durango, Colorado.
To Whom It May Concern:
We have been advised that the firm, Gravel, LLC of 47 Pinnacle View Drive, Durango, CO
81301, has filed an application for a regulaz (112) Construction Materials Operation Reclamation
Permit with the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Act for the Extraction of Construction
Materials. We oppose the reclamation permit application as it is currently written. We also wish
to point out that the City of Durango/La Plata County, the owners of the Durango-La Plata
County Airport, as adjacent landowners, were never notified of this permit application.
Our opposition is confined to Page 9B of Exhibit E, Piedras De La Florida Conceptual
Development Plan which indicates that following gavel mining operations, 76 residential units
will be planned for the pennit azea. The Durango-La Plata County Airport is strongly opposed
to any residential development of this density. This azea falls within the Traffic Pattern Zone of
the proposed Airport Compatible Land Use Plan and proposed residential density within this
zone is limited to no more than one dwelling unit per twenty acres. This significant residential
encroachment onto land adjacent to a busy, commercial service airport is not in the public
interest. This area is subject to noise impacts from aircraft in the downwind traffic pattern
segment for landing on Runway 2.
The Airport has no objection to the Gravel Mining operations, per se, as long as any reclamation
permit does not include high density residential development.
h~o
"The only way to Fly to the Four Corners"
