i
Construction of additional corrective measures will be based upon the Observational Approach, with
measures undertaken only if dictated by the observed conditions. Further corrective measures could
include other horizontal dewatering trenches, micro piles and retaining wall repairs at the portal and along
the access roads.
H3.1 Update of Existing In-Place Corrective Measures
Pins (Micro Piles). Installed in 1998. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective Measures Repots" for a
detailed description of the micropile installation.
RCC Buttress. Initially installed in 1992 and expanded in 1997. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective
Measures Report" for a detailed description of the RCC buttress installation.
Dewatering Wells. Installed in 1997. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective Measures Report" for a
detailed description of the dewatering well installation. Presently, the wells are not pumped due to
insufficient collection of groundwater and very low pumping capacity.
Stone Columns. Installed in late 1997 and early 1998. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective Measures
Report" for a detailed description of the stone column installation. Monitoring of water levels in the stone
columns indicates that some of the columns do not drain water effectively to the cobble layer, but none-
the-less are good groundwater collectors. These columns aze pumped on an periodic basis to remove water
from the slide. Approximately 51,000 gallons of water have been pumped from stone columns SC-20, SC-
22, SC-29 and SC-68 between Mazch and July of 1999 to assist with removal of water from the landslide.
Horizontal Wells or Drains. Installed in early 1998. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective Measures
Report" for a detailed description of the horizontal well installation. These wells typically collect a total of
6 gpm during the spring and 2 gpm during other times of the year.
Pond Lining. Installed in 1998. Refer to "1997/98 Landslide Corrective Measures Report" for a detailed
description of the pond lining.
Barr Engineering Company
PCDOCS1208220/CAK
JUIy 31, 1999
11 Appendix H
1999 Addendum to
1997198 landslide Corrective Measures Report
