2.06 Requirements for Permits for Special <br />Categories of Mining <br />2.06.1 Scope <br />The following sections of this permit document present a description of the operations at the West <br />Elk Mine that aze considered special categories of mining. <br />2.06.2 Experimental Mining Practices <br />The West Elk Mine produces coal using standard room and pillaz and longwall techniques. As a <br />result, the provisions contained in the regulations for experimental mining practices do not apply. <br />2.06.3 Mountaintop Removal Mining <br />Because the West Elk Mine is an underground mine, the provisions contained in the regulations for <br />mountaintop removal do not apply. <br />2.06.4 Steep Slope Mining <br />Because the West Elk Mine is an underground mine, the provisions contained in the regulations for <br />steep slope mining do not apply. <br />2.06.5 Permits Incorporating Variances from Approximate <br />Original Contour Restoration Requirements for Steep <br />Slope Mining <br />Because the West Elk Mine is an underground mine, the provisions contained in the regulations for <br />steep slope mining do not apply. <br />2.06.6 Prime Farmlands <br />No prime farmlands have been disturbed by mining activities at the West Elk Mine. <br />C~ <br />2.06-1 <br />
