Rock outcrop consists of barren escarpments, ridge caps, and rocky
points of ,sandstone, shale, limestone, or siltstone. The escarpments
commonly are 3 to 50 feet high and 25 to 2,500 feet long.
Most areas of this unit are used for wildlife habitat and limited
livestock grazing. A few areas are used for [he development of coal and
natural gas.
The potential plant community on the lower elevation of the soil is
mainly 20 percent Salina wi.ldrye, 10 percent western wheatgrass, 10 percent
other grasses, 10 percent forbs in small amounts, 10 percent Wyoming big
sagebrush, 5 percent shadscale, 5 percent Saskatoon service berry, and 5
percent small low rabbitbrush with a 5 to 40 percent canopy cover of Utah
juniper and pinyon. Other plants that characterize this site in smaller
amounts are Indian ricegrass, green ephedra, and fourwi.ng saltbush.
The potential plant community on the upper elevation of the soil is
mainly 10 percent Indian ricegrass, 30 percent other grasses, 15 percent
forbs in small amounts, 20 percent Gambel oak, and 10 percent Mountain biz
sagebrush, with a 20 to 50 percent canopy cover of Utah juniper and pinyon.
Other plants that characterize this site in smaller amounts are green
ephedra, shadscale, and fourwing saltbush. Some areas at the higher
elevation range of this soil loo}: very much like the Bushy Loam range site.
The pinyon and juniper trees have limited economic value. Some are
used as firewood, fenceposts, and Christmas trees, However, in most areas
steepness of slcpe limits access for harvesting wood products
