4-2
i 4.1.2.2 Present Land Use
The present land use of the proposed mine plan and permit area is not unlike historical uses
described above. Wildlife habitat encompasses the majority of the area with the remainder of
the area utilized as rangeland. Topographic features vary from level to steep slopes and vertical
rock outcrops along the side of the drainage. Cattle are grazed on the rangeland and grazeable
woodlands that occur within the mine plan and adjacent areas.
The land acreage to be affected by all surface operations and facilities within the proposed
permit area exhibits use not unlike that realized throughout the region with grazing being the
predominant use with unknown degrees of success. A portion of the acreage within the
proposed mine plan and permit area could only have been associated with wildlife habitat due to
considerations of topographic restrictions, water availability and vegetation, with the remaining
portion of the area used as rangeland.
The reclamation objectives are to return the disturbed area to the previous uses; wildlife
habitat and rangeland. Domestic animals are restricted in their movement through the canyon
• area by topography. Reclamation and revegetation of the disturbed areas will take this fact into
consideration (See Sections 3.1 and 3.4). Discussions of site utilization by wildlife is provided in
Section 4.3.9, with specifics relative to land capability and productivity addressed in Section
4.4.4 and shown on Table 4.4-3.
•
M~ Volume 1 4 -29 - 96
