~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
III III III IIIIIIIIII
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
Mr. Don Rapp
8730 W. Mountain View Lane
Littleton, Colorado 80125
Dear Mr. Rapp:
January 18, 1984
Re
Dickerson Granite Pit
File No. M-78-305
The following questions need to be addressed before the January 25-26, 1984
Board meeting. Please have your comments back to the staff as soon as possible.
Application: Please address the following sections of the application that
were deficient when the original application was submitted.
No. 7 - Mineral Owners
No. 9 - Type of Mine/Substance
No. 14 - Present Land Use
No. 15 - Proposed Future Use
Exhibit B
Staff has calculated the total volume of overburden and topsoil removed to be
in excess of 70,000 tons in one year. If this is the case, then this plan
falls under a regular permit process and not a Limited Impact operation.
Please explain how this permit fits under a Limited Impact application given
the present mine plan.
Exhibit D - Wildlife
Conversations with Mr. Rick Sherman of the Division of Wildlife have confirmed
this area as critical Elk and Deer winter range. Therefore, staff will
recommend that Formaz and Son agree to the wildlife procedure of notification
and termination of operations during these critical winter periods.
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
Staff feels that the introduced species of Crested Wheat Grass, Smooth Brome,
and Yellow Sweet Clover are too abundant in the mix, and will dominate the
site to the exclusion of the natives. Therefore, please reduce these species
to below 10% in the mix on a seeds per square foot basis, and increase the
native species accordingly.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
