wetlands aeeas bordering the west side of County Road 179 and western edge of the proposed mining area will •
probably betwe~_n 1700 and 2000 feet west of the county road, depending on ezisting wetlands locations.
We understand that the proposed haul road will egress from County Road 179 near the southeast property corner
and proceed to the northwest. The haul road will cross the buried high pressure gas line approximately 250 feet
west of the county road, a small area of wetlands and proceed into the pit area.
SITE CONDITIONS
The project site is situated along the west side of County Road 179 and approximately 3/4 mile south of U.S.
Highway 40 in Routt County, Colorado. The site is located within the Yampa River floodplain and site is
bordered on the north by the Yampa River and on the south by Trout Creek.
The property i:c generally vacant and mostly undisturbed and currently used for livestock grazing, with the
exception of a buried high pressure natural gas transmission line and an overhead electric utility line. The gas line
generally runs bt a northeast-southwest direction in the southern portion of the proposed mine area and the electric
line in anorthwest-southeast direction through the central porion of the proposed mine area. Three wooden
utility poles support the electric lines i^ the proposed mine area.
The property is located within the Yampa River floodplain and the vegetation typically consists of natural grasses, •
weeds and sagebrush within the majority of the proposed mine area. The mine area is mostly surrounded by
wetlands areas typically vegetated with wetlands grasses, willow brush and/or mature stands of cottonwood trees.
The Trout Creel: drainage channel borders the south and southwest sides of the proposed mine area.
The topography of a majority of the property is fairly consistent and generally slopes very gently down to the
west. Localized low areas consisting of abandoned or overflow river channels form the wetlands areas which
generally border the mine areas along the east, north and western pit boundazies.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The field investigation for this project was conducted on December 20, 21 and 22, 1999. Four (4) test pits were
excavated and eight (8) test holes were advanced at the approximate locations shown on Figure N2 to explore the
subsurface conditions within the proposed mining area. It should also be noted that nine (9) test holes were
advanced at the site during a previous site investigation conducted by NWCC, Inc. under our job number 98-3703
and dated September 28, 1998.
Locations of the [es[ holes and pits were determined by pacing from ezisting structures and topographic features
shown on the site plan provided by Kent Crofts of IME. The elevations of the test holes and pits were determined •
by interpolating between the contours shown on the site plan.
lob No. 00304 Northwest Colorado Consultants, lnc. Page 2
