( 3. Columbine-Stapleton area
Deep, nearly level to strongly sloping, well drained gravelly soils.
They formed in sandy alluvium; derived from arkosic sedimentary bedrock.
This soil area is in the north central part of the survey area and
occupies about 2 percent of the total acreage. About 50 percent of the
area is Columbine soils, 30 percent Stapleton soils, and the remaining
20 percent is soils of minor extent.
The Columbine soil is on the nearly level to gently sloping alluvial
terraces and fans and contains more gravel than the Stapleton soil. The
Stapleton soil is on the gently sloping to strongly sloping areas.
The minor soils in this area are the somewhat excessively drained
Blakeland and Ellicott soils and the well drained Blandon, Louviers,
and Truckton soils. Also some Ustic Torrifluvents, loamy and
Fluveutic Haplaquolls, nearly level are included.
Most of this soil area is in native grass and used for grazing
livestock. It is also used for homesites and wildlife habitat.
. r
