• percent of the cvver standard with 90 percent statistical confidence. The general equation to be used in
comparing successful revegetation for cover is as follows:
xrevc _ .90 (2 (.83x~ + 2 (.17xs~) with 90% statistical confidence
where: xrevc =mean herbaceous cover -revegetated area
xbc =mean herbaceous cover -mountain brush reference area
xsc =mean herbaceous cover • sagebrush reference area
Cover data will be collected using the point-intercep! method. Sample adequacy will be me! for both
redaimed and reference areas. All sample sites will be randomly located.
Production. Successful revegetation for production in all redaimed areas will be based on herbaceous
production (4.15.8(4)). The mean herbaceous production in the revegetated areas wilt be compared to the
weighted mean herbaceous production determined from the mountain shrub and sagebrush reference
areas. The weighting will be as described in the earlier discussion on reference areas.
Herbaceous production will be collected by dipping the cement years above ground hefiaceous biomass
• from randomly located one-haK square meter or one square meter sample plats in the revegetated and
reference areas. Fendng or exdosures will be used to exdude livestock prior to sampling, where
necessary. The comparison standard for production will be determined by taking the mean herbaceous
production value for each of the two reference areas, weighting each value as previously described, and
combining the weighted values to determine the standard.
The celwlated production standard will be compared to the mean herbaceous production value for the
revegetated areas. For production, the revegetated areas shall be considered acceptable if it is not less
than 90 percent of the production standard with 90 percent statistical confidence. The general equation for
production related success comparisons is as follows:
xrevp _ .90 ((.83 xb~(.17 xsp)) with 90% statistical confidence
where: xfeVp =mean herbaceous production -revegetated area
xbp =mean herbaceous protlucfion -mountain brush reference area
xsp =mean herbaceous production -sagebrush reference area
Production data will be collected from randomly located plots. Sampling will be to adequacy or to an upper
• limit of samples determined in consultation with the Division.
1333 Revised 0115/93
