• Reference Area Monitoring. The reference areas will be periodicelty monitored using similar methods,
parameters, and intensities as specified under Revegetation Monitoring.
Annual Reporting
The Annual ReGamation Report will be submitted by March 30 of each year and will report those items
required by 2.04.13(1). Additionally, the following information will be inGuded:
1. Annual herbicide applications and weed and pest control measures
2. Alfalfa control monitoring/Wadge Pasture grazing {Appendix 13~)
3. Annual topsoil balance reporting
4. Revegetation monitoring
5. Wildlife monitoring (when conducted)
6. Results of sediment pond surveys (when conducted)
7. As-built designs for stoGc tanks censtruced during the reporting year
Testing for Successful ReGamation
• The following discussion details the applicable success criteria, methods to be used in measurement of
parameters, comparisons to be made between reGaimed and undisturbed areas and statistical tests to be
performed.
Use of Reference Areas
Baseline vegetation studies conduced in 1979 and 1980 identified two primary vegetation types: upland
sagebrush and mixed brush/aspen. The aspen type was considered a subtype of the mixed brush and
contained similar understory vegetation. See Tab 10, Vegetation Baseline Report, for a more detailed
discussion and 6chibR 10-1 for vegetation mapping and reference area !options.
Reference areas reflecing the above two vegetation types were established during baseline studies. The
sagebrush reference area (referred to as upland sagebrush in earlier studies) covers approximately 4.8
acres in the far southern portion of the permit area. The mountain brush reference area (referred to as mixed
brush/aspen in earlier studies) is located on 4.7 acres in an area west of the permit area. Aspen is
• represented in the mountain brush community. Both reference areas have been protected from mining-
related disturbance and have been property managed according to the postmining land use.
18-31 Revised 0!15/93
