Rule 1.0f
• In 1986, coal production ceased and final reclamation operations commenced at the mine.
Backfilling, grading and seeding of the entire mine pit area was completed in 1986.
Information concerning the location and status of roads within the permit area can be found in
Volume I, Section 2.05.3, Page 16 (pages counted from the beginning of the section) and on Exhibit
[ of Exhibits, Volume I of the August 1980 permit application. Information regarding sediment
control ponds and diversions may be found in Volume I, Section 2.05.3, page 27 of Exhibit K,
Exhibits Volume I and Exhibit of Exhibits Volume II of the original permit application.
2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
The goal of the reclamation plan was to restore all affected areas to approximate original contour
(AOC) and pre-mining vegetative productivity. During the period that the mine was active,
reclamation followed the mining operations as closely as practical. Map 2, Reclamation Sequence
and Drainage Map (see map pocket in Exhibits) shows the actual reclamation sequence and
approximate areas reclaimed by year. The total number of approximate acres disturbed and
reclaimed each year are shown below in Table 2.05-2.

TABLE 2.05-2
DISTURBANCE & RECLAMATION SEQUENCE
Year Acres
Disturbed' Acres
Reclaimed
1978 85 0
1979 89 23
1980 57 10
1981 38 32
1982 28 61
1983 13 28
1984 21 37
1985 31 21
1988 - 108
1987 - 42
Total 382 362
1. Acreage calculated from August 1987 M-K Reclamation
Sequence Map and rounded to nearest whole number
Mine reclamation was essentially completed in the Fall of 1986 with the exception of the
office/shop/warehouse facilities and other areas on the northwest side of CR 53 which were
• reclaimed in Fall 1987: Mine reclamation operations basically consisted of pit backfilling, grading
and contouring, ripping, topsoil replacement and seeding. All operations were performed in
accordance with MLRD approved plans and designs. Major components of the reclamation phase
of mine operations are described in the following sections.
'T2-63 9/N/96
.,~ 2.05-3 N~z6~Y6 s~RnrrrAL
