The larder O~ the tCFO <br />areas (in section 3C) occupies the western and southern slopes <br />c= Pyramid ",ountain, an erJSiGna1 re-L:a:~t aC the southern e:~d <br />cf Chiraley dock Mesa, and sr_11 portions of the valley floor <br />along Stollsteimer Creek. Tepcgraphy is tyrically rol'_irg to <br />rugged badland formations comarised of inter-fingered beds of <br />stale, coal, and sa:.dstor.e. In areas of relatively high topo- <br />graphic relief soil developme:a is absent, with sediments con- <br />sisting of shale, angular quartzites, sandstone, and petrified <br />c:ood. Areas along Stollstei,..er Creek are characterized by deep <br />ailu•rial sediments. Vegetation is characterized by a noderate <br />*-o dense stand of ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, ar.d juniper. <br />Ga^ble's oa}: and big sagebrusi~ are the major understor;~ species, <br />•.aith lesser amounts of serviceberr•~, rabbitbrush, and other <br />wocdy shrubs. Stolls*_eimer Creek supports a narrow riparian <br />association. <br />The smaller of the t;oo areas, ir. section 2°, occupies a <br />hig`1 eroded bench and the .;.oath o= Deep Canyon, south of Stoll- <br />steimer Creek.
