r, <br />~~ <br />• <br />• <br />Soil productivity is discussed in the land use and vegetation base- <br />line section of this application. Since grazing by domestic livestock <br />is the dominant and preferred land use, soil productivity is essentially <br />related to herbaceous forage production. Since, as stated in the land use <br />section, the range condition was judged good in all plant communities at <br />the time of the baseline survey, it is a reasonable assumption that the <br />levels of production reported in the reconnaissance survey (see page II.A-3) <br />represent potential production for these communities. <br />Elimination of shrubs and planting a mixture improved forage species <br />would greatly improve usable forage production. It is estimated that forage <br />production could be doubled or tripled in this way for these soils. <br />6-81 <br />II.I-4b <br />
