• Additional Notes on Hydrology to be Considered Part of this Permit
The applicant will monitor surface water sites SW1, SW2, SW4, SW7 and SW8 on a
quarterly basis during the active mining phase. Quarterly herein means those
quarters when water is present and when the applicant can physically reach the
sites and collect samples. If weather conditions, and/or adverse site con-
ditions prevent access to those sites, the applicant will not sample. At the i
end of the active mining phase, the applicant and the Division will agree to a
post-mining frequency that may or may not be less frequent, depending on the
outcome of the monitoring results obtained during the active mining phase.
The applicant will field monitor the above surface water sites for parameters
of temperatures, pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen. Flow will be visually
checked at each of these sites noting no flow, low, moderate or high Clow. Acl~~~~
du.l~~ naX~'
Flow readings will be taKen from the weir at site SW4 when available. Pe.rm,t nwer~•
qv a
The Rockcastle Company will collect a sample from SW-4 annually for '~~
Lull suite of chemical analysis. SW-4 was chosen because (a) i[ is downstream
• trom all mine workings, (b) water is available at this site year round, and (c)
a weir is installed at this location.
Alluvial well MW2 will be monitored quarterly during the active mining please
for water level, pH, conductivity, and temperature. Again, if weather or
field conditions prohibit access to the site, it will not be monitored.
Ground water monitoring wells have been placed to bedrock in reclaimed Pits 2
b 5. A similar ground water monitoring well will be placed in Pit 4 otter
reclamation. Tne Ptt 4 monitoring well will be installed within the first
construction season following final grading. Well completion diagrams are
enclosed as Figure 1. These three ground water wells will be tested quarterly
(pending weather and site access) for field parameters and chemical parameters
listed above. Results will be submitted to the Division on an annual basis.
These wells were installed to determine if the groundwater within a reclaimed
pit area deteriorates over time.
\J
II .F-16a
12/87
