Oa-,: _; ~~ •~
82 Alpine ~~""'~~'~"`~°
Forest Lakes
Bayfield, Colorado 81122
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
After receipt of your certified letter, regarding the above subject
matter, this will serve to notify you that we still object to the
mining that has been going on for the past several years, and the
continuation of that mining and pollution.
We find it very hard to believe that even though you issued a "Cease
and Desist Order", they continued to mine. Apparently, you intend to
modify the fine and will give them mining privileges for an infinite
time period. It would seem that after years of illegal mining that at
least a time limitwould be placed on termination--and a proper reclama-
tion program. _
It seems fruitless to appear at the hearing since a compromise agreement
has already been reached. It appears that the "law" is more concerned
with the proper paper work being in file than whether or not mining has
been going on illegally and the fact that the mining has not been and
probably will not be done according to proper procedures or whether it
can go on forever without the eyesore being restored. We would say,
either the law or the enforcement is virtually worthless.
1 Sincer ly,
~r
M. Gaines Chesnut
Margaret A. Chesnut

cc: Mr. Joe Zalkind
