suggestion, and because it may be beyond line-of--sight from the nest location, no mitigation is
requested.
NATNE AMERICAN RELIGIOUS CONCERNS
Affected Environment: General annual project consultation has been conducted with the
Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah & Ouray
Reservation, the tribes who traditionally used the GJFO azea. Concerns identified included
eradication of sage, impacts to medicinal plants, and general modem intervention in the natural
processes. No traditional cultural properties or properties of a type previously identified as being
of interest to local tribes, were found during the cultural resources inventory of the project azea
or identified by consultation. There is no other known evidence that suggests that the project
area holds special significance for Native Americans.
Environmental Consequences/Mitigation: No additional Native American Indian consultation
was conducted for the proposed project.
THREATENED, ENDANGERED, AND SENSITNE SPECIES (includes a fording on Standard 4)
Affected Environment: No raze plants or special status animals are known to occupy the
proposed project azea. Bald eagles may occasionally fly over or forage across this desert
landscape. Kit fox (state endangered) may traverse the project area (no dens are known in this
azea). Milk snakes, midget faded rattlesnakes, and longnose leopazd lizards inhabit the azea (all
BLM-Sensitive).
Environmental Consequences/Mitigation: The proposed project is not anticipated to affect any
T&E or sensitive plant or animal species. Impacts to the sensitive reptiles would be unlikely due
to low population densities. All proposed travel could conceivably destroy individual snakes or
lizards, but such impacts are incidental and not specifically avoidable. Vehicle operators should
avoid impacts to any wildlife whenever possible.
Finding on. the Public Land Health Standard for Threatened & Endangered species: Aland
health assessment has not been conducted for this area, but incidental observations suggest that it
is meeting the standard or meeting it with problems. Problem factors in this aze include invasive
weeds and OHV travel.
WASTES, HAZARDOUS OR SOLID
Affected Environment: Hazardous or solid wastes are not a part of the natural environment.
They could be introduced through implementation of the proposed action.
Environmental Consequences/Mitigation: Hazardous wastes could be introduced into the
environment in the form of spilled fuel, hydraulic fluid, or oil used by the machinery and the
resulting contaminated soil and water. Caze should be taken to prevent spills of these materials
and any contaminated soil should be treated or disposed of properly or remediated onsite.
Fueling and maintenance activities should not take place in or adjacent to any drainages
(perennial or ephemeral.) Al] product containers (oil and hydraulic fluid cans, etc.) should be
removed from the site and disposed of properly.
WATER QUALITY, SURFACE AND GROUND (includes a fording on Standard 5)
Affected Environment: The drill sites and access roads would be within an upland portion of
the East Salt Creek watershed. The project location is drained by unnamed ephemeral tributaries
