Habitat for Wildlife
This range site provides a habitat which supports a resident animal
community that is characterized by pronghorn antelope, jackrabbits,
cottontail rabbits and morning doves. Scaled quail live ou range
where shelter is provided by shrubby plants or abandoned
homesteads.
There is seasonal use by upland game birds, other birds, mule deer.
The overshadowing limitation to wildlife populations is the lack of
moisture. Droughts are common, and, as a result, essential plant
products, food and cover are uncertain and erratic.
4. Hydrological Interpretations
Soils in [his site are grouped into "B azid C" hydrologic groups, as
outlined in the "Soils of Colorado Loss Factors and Erodibility
Hydrologic Groupings 1979" handbook. Field investigations are
needed to determine hydrological cover conditions and hydrologic
curve numbers. The hydrologic curve number for Group B and C soils
is about 61 and 74 respectively for all the soils when hydrologic !
conditions are good, as shown in "Peak Flows in Colorado" handbook.
Refer to SCS National Engineering Handbook, Section 4, to determine
runoff quantities from the curves.
5. Reacreation aid Natural Beauty
This site has many (orbs and some shrubs that bloom from early
spring to early summer which are aesthetically pleasing. Hunting
for upland game birds, cottontail, jackrabbits, antelope and coyotes
are generally good [o excellent on this site.
~t`' 6.
