<br />Introduction <br />\J <br />This cultural resource irnentory report is submitted in compliance xith <br />the National Historic Preservation Act of 1466, Executive Order 11593, the <br />Archaeological aryl Historic Preservation Act of 1974, and the National Environ- <br />mental Policy Act of 1969• It was prepared under Purchase Order Number 11469 <br />by Gordon and Kranzush -Archaeological Consultants at the request of 4lestern <br />Slope Carbon, Inc. to locate, assess the significance of, and determine impact <br />to all cultural resources located within areas slated for disturbance due to <br />planned drilling, construction, or excavation operations. Protect areas are <br />located on lands of HI24 surface and private ownership, and all areas fall within <br />the Bureau of Land Management t4ontrose District. <br />On November 17, 1977, pedestrian survey of three proposed drill pads, one <br />partially completed drill pad, two access alignments to drill pads, a tract of <br />lard encompassing approximately thirty acres to be used for mining waste dis- <br />posal, the immediate surrourdings of the Hawk's Idest Piine, and investigation of <br />a power plant structure for which demolition has been proposed were completed <br />for the following protect areas(see also Figures lA and 1B, Areal Provenience): <br />1) Oliver Power Plant and immediate surroundings <br />Township 135, Range 9041, SE` of SE4 of S{4 Section 10, <br />Gunnison County. <br />2) Hawk's Nest aline area <br />Township 135, Range 90Y1, <br />Gunnison County. <br />t~ of Nl; of Slt4 Section il, <br />3) Drill Hole N9 location (with access alignment) <br />Township 135, Range 90W, SFFa of SI~ of SI+F; Section 12, <br />Gunnison County. <br />4) Drill Hole ~8 location (no access alignment) <br />Township 135, Range 90.1, SYF; of NE4 oS NF,1 Section 12, <br />Gunnison County. <br />~ 5) Drill Hole ~{7 location (with access alignment) <br />.
