Concrete Co.
Del Camino Sand and Gravel Mine
I appreciate your sending the additional information on the above
referenced reclamation plan. We concur with the majority of the
plan but would like to make the following recommendations or
comments:
Topsoil Replacement: There is no mention as to how this will
in incorporated or mixed with the graded
slopes. it is a good idea to put the top
soil on in layers and insure good
adhesion by ripping or discing into the
finish grade soils.
Seeding Method/Mulching: Seeding with a drill is by far
recommended over broadcast seeding.
Mulching with native hay is preferred
to straw as the native hay will not
break down as quick and the chance for
weeds will be lessened.
It is highly recommended to 'crimp' the
mulch into the soil after it is applied.
Weed Management: While control of the noted noxious weeds is
very important, so is the control of the
annual and biennial weeds. Granted, these
weeds will be found for several years
until the grass becomes established but
if they are left uncontrolled, they will
rob much needed moisture from the new
grass and slow the stand establishment.
The basic seeding mixtures look good from our perspective and
these should provide adequate cover when established. The rates
are within the specifications that we would use and recommend.
Overall, the reclamation plan looks good.
