•
].l
SUMMARY
The strength properties of the coal in the Cameo "B" seam at the Roadside
Mine exceed those for any of the western U.S. coal seams for which test results are
available. The lateral variation of the strength properties across the 2nd and 3rd East
Sections is minimal and composite strength results are recommended for design.
"Pillar Slabbing" to 14 by 80 ft is recommended for all pillars within 100 ft of
the Ute Water Co. property and within 100 ft of the 24-in. Ute Water Main. Such
pillars should have at least a 14% higher factor of safety than the currently stable
pillars in Section (Panel) "G" at the Roadside Mine. It is probable that the increase
will be at least 31% above the pillars in Section "G." Smaller, 12 x 80-ft, pillars
should be sufficient at a depth of 200 ft, but such a small area is under such thin
cover in the 3rd East Section That this reduction is probably not warranted.
• Subsidence predictions for the unlikely case of pillar failure within the safety
area under the Ute Water Co's. surface facilities indicate that backfilling should
eventually be done within 100 ft of those facilities. Backfilling in This area of the
2nd East and 3rd East Sections would eliminate any potential for long-term subsidence
impact on the Ute Water Co's. surface facilities.
•
