De, t :,; ._,,~, ,, . ~.
Re: Superior Sand & Gravel -
Aurora File #79-189
In response to your letter of November 30, 1979 to Superior Sand and
Gravel Co., Mr. Keith Merilatt has requested that I address the statements
made in the memorandum from Dr- Jeris Danielson of the Division of Water
Resources regarding their review of the application report filed with the Colo-
rado Mined Land Reclamation Board for a Mining and Reclamation Permit.
We are happy to submit the following additional information to supplement the
water information presented in Exhibit G of our report.
The application for anon-consumptive commercial well permit was
submitted to the State Engineer's office in September after rezoning of the site
had been approved by the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners. The
basis for the "non-consumptive" request was a result of a discussion with Mr.
Stephen Hart of the Ground Water Section on March 14, 1979 at which time the
use of the process water required to wash the sand during screening and
grading was explained along with the approximate quantities involved in the
system. We were advised that if evaporation from the system was a small
percentage of the annual amount pumped, the well could be recognized as a
"non-consumptive" welt, but if consumption by the system was a significant
percentage of the annual amount pumped, augmentation would be necessary.
A consumption of 0. 9°fo or 3. 1 acre feet was judged to be small and an
application for anon-consumptive permit was filed without a plan for
augmentation. We are inclosing a copy of the application and letter of submittal
for your perusal.
To date there has been no response to the well permit application othet'
than the reference in the memo that it may be denied.
