Section 2.04.8 Climatological Information
• (1) A statement of the climatological factors that are representative
of the proposed permit area.
The Red Canyon #1 Mine and proposed #2 Mine site lie on the
southern slope of Grand Mesa in a small box canyon about 3-1/2
miles northwest of the town of Cedaredge, Colorado. No detailed
information is available for the mine site. The closest station
to the mine site is the town of Cedaredge, elevation 6,200'.
Refer to Drawing 2.04.3(2)(b)(i)-1 and to Drawing 2.04.8(1)-1.
(a) The mean monthly precipitation.
For the period 1951 through 1973 the town of Cedaredge, Colorado
averaged 0.99 inches of precipitation per month, or approximately
12 inches per year. October had the greatest average precipita-
tion of 1.40 inches. February had the least average precipitation
of 0.77 inches. This information can be found on Tables 2.04.8
• (1)(a)-1 and 2.04.8(1)(a)-3. Information for December 1981 to
November 1983 is included in Table 2.04.8(1)(a)-9.
(b) The average direction and velocity of the prevailing winds.
As noted above, there is no wind monitoring station in the Red
Canyon #1, Mine and proposed #2 Mine or in the town of Cedaredge.
The closest station is in Grand Junction, Colorado. Refer to
Drawing 2.04.8(1)-1. The data, therefore, cannot be official for
the mine site area.
Information obtained from Grand Junction on prevailing wind, in the
Red Canyon #1 Mine and proposed #2 Mine site is as as follows:
1. Average wind direction is from the north.
2. Average wind velocity is light, about five to six~MPH. As
stated before, a more local source is not available for wind
• patterns at the mine site.
REVISED January 13, 1984 65
